In a strange turn of events, liquor enthusiasts disrupted an alcohol destruction drive of the Gunter Police on Monday. Scores of people who could not resist the temptation of seeing more than 24,000 liquor bottles at once, lined-up for disposal, rushed in and took as many as bottles they could and fled, all this right in front of the police personnel.
The district police were aiming to dispose of the alcohol seized during the simultaneous Assembly and Lok Sabha elections. The drive under the supervision of SP Sathish Kumar was being carried out at the dumping yard in Nallacheruvu. Generally, the police use a road-roller to destroy the seized liquor bottles, but this time they have bought a proclainer resulting in slowing the drive.
