Telangana police on Friday reunited a new-born baby girl with her mother in Bandlaguda after rescuing her within 24 hours when her father allegedly sold the child for Rs.1 lakh to persons known to him.

Based on a complaint lodged by the child’s mother Asma Begum on Thursday, the police registered a case and formed a special team to trace the 18-month-old baby. With the help of information collected from Asma Begum, the police traced the baby within 24 hours and handed over the child to her.

Bandlaguda Inspector K Satyanarayana said the child’s father Asif threatened Asma Begum with dire consequences and sold the baby to persons known to him for Rs.1 lakh. He said the mediator Sultana along with Asif and another person, who purchased the child, were taken into custody for further interrogation.
